Bat Mitzvah – Alexa’s Sweet Shoppe & Candy Bar

Back to Bar & Bat Themes

We were completely blown away by the beautiful Alexa and her bat mitzvah photos from Lasting Memories Photography. This awesome bat mitzvah girl is a true sweetheart filled with joy and love. When she was born her dad nicknamed her “Yumminess” because of how sweet and yummy she was, so the theme for the party was “Alexa’s Sweet Shoppe”. Candy was everywhere at the reception and even the ceremony, where soft candy was thrown at Alexa after she read her Torah portion, to symbolize a sweet life.

Alexa’s Bat Mitzvah was April 21, 2012. The ceremony was at The Jewish Center in Princeton, NJ, and the reception was at the Westin also in Princeton. They had a photoshoot a few months before to get portraits for the sign in board and guest book.

Besides being an all A student, she is a fantastic sister, daughter, friend and dancer. She holds a silver medal in Latin dance in the Junior I category at the Nationals.  Alexa is a perfectionist in everything she does.  She is loved and respected by her family, friends, teacher and all that meet her. I’m proud to be her mom and to see her grow and become a responsible, and caring Jewish adult.Bat Mitzvah Girl Portraits Princeton NJBat Mitzvah Synagogue Portraits

Alexa’s bat mitzvah centerpieces were made out of candy and there was a candy bar called Alexa’s Candy Bar. Her bat mitzvah favors were T-shirts saying “I had a sweet time at Alexa’s Bat Mitzvah” followed by the date and pictures of cupcakes.

 From the Bat Mitzvah Girl

I have so many favorite details from my Bat Mitzvah.  From the beautiful invitations, to my perfect dress, and finally seeing everybody have an amazing time while celebrating my special day.  I could not have asked for anything better.

One of the most memorable moments from the day for me was definitely standing up on the bimah in front of the ark after completing the service while the entire congregation stood, clapping and singing “Sim’cha Tov and Mazel Tov.”  At this time, the Rabbi whispered in my ear that this was “my moment” and it really was an amazing feeling, of pure satisfaction and pride.  Also, one of my favorite moments of the day was walking into the fully decorated ballroom for the reception. Finally, all of the planning and dreaming of the perfect night became reality.  It was seriously stunning!  I could barely believe it.  My immediate reaction was to sprint to my parents and thank them and of course, give them a huge hug!

Alexa’s Mitzvah Project

For my mitzvah (or Hesed) project, I volunteered at the Pavillions at Forrestal Assisted Living.  I helped the employees entertain, and care for the elderly.  During the experience, I met an extraordinary woman, named Mildred.  She told me all about some of her recent tough hardships in life, including losing her daughter, daughter-in-law, and breaking her neck.  Mildred inspired me to never give up, no matter what circumstances.

Mitzvah Mom Advice

Alexa’s Mom Stella: My only advice is to plan ahead and have fun!  It’s an exciting and yet a stressful time for the entire family!  Book your vendors early, be specific with your wants and needs and follow up with an email the week before the event.  And remember to have fun and enjoy watching your child achieve this milestone in their life.  I was touched to tears seeing my last child, my baby, up at the bimah become a young Jewish adult.  I recall her being named at the same bimah.  It is an unforgettable moment for a parent.  Good luck and Mazel Tov to all!!

And Mazel Tov to you, Alexa, and your family! Thank you so much for sharing your special day with us!
