Philip is the new rabbi of Congregation Agudas Israel in Newburgh, New York. As a rabbinical student at the Jewish Theological Seminary, he pursued a concentration in pastoral care, which is very valuable in Newburgh.
He previously served as the sole rabbi, cantor, torah reader and “chief cook and bottle washer” of the South Baldwin Jewish Center/Congregation Shaarei Shalom. Before that he was the rabbinic intern of the E. 55th Street Conservative Synagogue. Prior to these shul communities, Philip participated in the Clinical Pastoral Education program at Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville, GA. There he provided pastoral care to the patients, families and staff of the intensive care unit.
Continuing his work in pastoral care, Philip is currently pursuing a second unit of Clinical Pastoral Education through Healthcare Chaplaicy and Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
He is an active member of the interfaith community locally. In the summer of 2009, he spent 10 days in Israel and the West Bank with Jewish and Christian Seminary students through the leadership of Auburn Theological Seminary.
When not working with his community, Philip enjoys time with his wife and extended family. Additionally, he enjoys photography and is still attempting to crochet a kippah.
Note: I can perform weddings for non-members, but b'nei mitzvah must be members. CAI's membership is extremely affordable.
